The Great Gatsby

Updated: Mar 18, 2021

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald was not something I expected. Before I opened the book I had purposefully not spoiled myself of the story by searching anything up about the novel at all. I did, however, come across the images of couple of scenes from the movie adaptation of the book. This adaptation in particular was the one released in 2013 and I saw Leonardo DiCaprio—who I assumed to be Gatsby—dressed up in a clean, handsome suit holding up a glass. He was smiling that charming smile and vivid fireworks of all colours and a bustling, lively party filled the scene behind him. I knew there was a woman, a love interest I figured, and I knew that the story was set in the 1920s in New York. I deduced that this story would be the usual romance with lots of partying involved and nothing too special to it. I could not be more wrong.
